  Why do “custom window layouts” reset occasionally?

  I have two Mac Pro/FCP systems (2 locations) and have used FCP for 8 years now with 3 different G5 machines over the years and it never fails, every two or three launches, FCP opens in the default window layout- I then have to go to the Window/Arrange menu to change it back to my custom layout. Why does the system do this? Even when I choose my pre-designed & saved layout, forget about the Effects window- it never opens with the rest of the window layout and I must manually open it and size/place each time.
  So all tolled, FCP launches with my custom layout only about 60% of the time. It’s just annoying!
  Any advice on what is happening or what I am doing incorrectly when saving my own window layouts?
