    Hello all,

I understand that H.264 is an uneditable codec that can cause problems when editing, and that Apple ProRes 422 is the preferred codec for editing. However, are there any other codecs that work when editing within FCP 7?

    Thanks.

If you look at your Easy Setups, there are setups provided for all editing formats that FCP can use. There are a few others like DNxHD that require extra codecs to be downloaded.

ProRes422 is extremely good and works best for both reliablity plus speed and easy on the hard drive requirements. Plus it is almost impossible to pick from uncompressed.

Thanks, Michael. I’ll check out Easy Setup.

DVCPRO HD and Uncompressed are your other options. But Uncompressed takes FAST hard drive connection to play.

DNxHD will work…but you will get ZERO RT options. It isn’t an FCP codec.
