  Converting 59.94 fps sony .mts files to smooth 29.97 fps slow-mo in FCP

  I have some 59.94 fps .mts files recorded with a Sony handycam that I would like to conform to smooth 29.97 fps in order to make nice slow-mo.

  In the past, this is what I have done:

  Convert mts to m4v using HandBrake with Framerate: “Same as Source” selected.

  Open m4v file in Mpeg Streamclip and export quicktime movie in Apple ProRes 422. I have been leaving the framerate option blank – I assume this maintains current framerate?

  Open file in Cinema Tools and conform to 29.97 fps.

  For some reason when I do this, I open the file in Cinema Tools and it tells me it’s already 29.97 fps.

  I have confirmed that the original files are 59.94 fps by opening them in VLC and choosing Media Information and Codec Details.

  When I open the intermediary m4v files in iTunes, they play in slow-motion.

  So, should I force the issue in Mpeg Streamclip by choosing to export at 59.94 fps? If it’s seeing 29.97 fps, will it just interpolate frames, or will it use the actual frames?

  Is there a better way to do this without buying additional software?

  “the TM700 can shoot 1080P/60”

  This has been an issue because FCP doesn’t support 1080p60…it’s a non-standard format.
