59.94 vs 29.97
Hi,
I’m working on a show for broadcast that is shooting multi-cam with F800s and they are primarily shooting 1080 59.94. We are editing in prores, but I am wondering if it would be best to keep 59.94 all the way through or would it be fine to convert it to 29.97? Will this change the look? Will there be issues with Onlining the show?

1080 59.94 is the same as 1080 29.97. It stupidly confusing.
When you say 1080 59.94…also called 1080i60, that refers to FIELDS per second. Two fields per frame, so 30fps…running at 29.97. You already are editing at 29.97fps.

Only for shooting slow motion. And only on a few consumer cameras (Panasonic M700…something like that) and real high end cameras.
There is no 1080p60 (1080p59.94) deliverable format. Not for the web, not on tape, not for broadcast, not on BluRay. 1080 is a 30 frame deliverable format. ONly 720p 59.94…60fps…is a broadcast and BluRay supported frame rate.

We get HDCAM-SR recored 1080p60 all the time. Lots of people are mastering 1080p60 for future proofing. Then converting to 1080i or 1080p24 for deliverables.
DCi spec will soon support higher fps… including 48 and 60.
Lots of new AVCHD cameras are doing 1080p60… including the new JVC 4k camcorder.
Sony F3, FS100 and FS700 all do 1080p60.
