  I am unable to view changes I’ve made to a clip in the timeline (i.e altering saturation levels using 3-way color correct) without first rendering. Usually I am able to view the changes in the canvas immediately and then I render when I am happy with the results.

  Try trashing your preferences for FCP. https://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/https://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/ free utility for this very thing too!
