  Oh, the woes… of Interlaced DV footage in HDV 720p30 Sequences…

  I hope this all makes sense, I’ve included this link to give an example of what I’m talking about.

  Some of you could probably look at that and see exactly what I need to do! But I will still explain. 🙂

  I cut together a service using a HDV – 720p30 Sequence
  My clips include HDV 720p24((sometimes 30fps) video files
  and 720×480 captured footage from a Sony DV Recorder.
  However… the captured footage is being sent over to the Recorder
  from a mixer that is only 640×360. so there’s some quality loss.

  Even if I didn’t have the quality loss, I don’t think my interlaced DV footage
  is ever going to look great in my HDV 720p30 timeline without a SOLID fix.

  I know it’s a lot smaller, so it won’t look perfect.
  ***Is there any way to de-interlace this right?
  I’ve tried Too Much Too Soon’s Blend Frames (and other) video filters and all
  I get is a slightly less lined, slightly blurrier image.

  There has to be a way to improve this, because on the DV NTSC 48 sequence
  I make for TV, the image looks five times better!

  Can anyone help?

  This is precisely why TV broadcasts HD in 2 formats 1080i and 730p60. Both are 60 images / sec and can accept any of the formats you mention without compromise. FCP 7 can do so correctly in a 720p60 sequence but not in 1080i. It won’t add proper pulldown to the 24p material. FCPX will FWIW.

  Beyond a 720p60 sequence you’re stuck using compressor or a plug to deinterlace but the 24p will still have a weird cadence in 30p sequence.

  Hey, thanks for the answer.
  I may have not properly worded my question though.

  The 720p24 inside my 30fps timeline isn’t the problem.
  My problem is the DV 720×480 30fps interlaced footage.
  I’m sizing it up so it’ll fit inside the 16×9 HD format, and
  the interlacing makes it look terrible. (Eyelids look like a horizontal line.)
  And even if I Blend Fields TMTS plugin, it still looks bad only now
  less liney and more blurry.

  The 720p60 hint about television is super helpful though! Def will use that.
  But will it also affect my DV interlaced footage?
