  Transcoding footage for FCP

  Hi all,

  question I need to trans-code some footage that was shot on a Sanyo camera, no idea what one. The footage is H264 1920×1080. What would be a good codec for the edit.
  The final outcome will be YouTube and a website.

  ProRes 422 or ProRes LT. Use MPEG STREAMCLIP for this…or Compressor.

  Hey Shane,
  Question, I came across the Apple Intermediate Codec. Do you have any thoughts on this?

  I tried a test with a smaller 85 mb H264 file, once trans-coded it was about 150 mb’s or so and still looked great.
  I tried a test with the same file, trans-coded to pro res and it was huge compared to its original.

  AIC is lossy. It isn’t as high quality as ProRes. If you compared both on an external Broadcast quality monitor, you’d see it right away. Plus, AIC doesn’t always bring over the camera timecode. It was a stop-gap format to enable early versions of FCP to work with HDV.
