  Straighten/Crop Aspect Ration Problem FCP

  Hi,
  I’m trying to crop and straighten clips that have had 2.35:1 aspect ratio applied to them through Matte>Widescreen effect. It seems that when I apply the effect to the clip, all it does it letterbox the original, not the new straightened/cropped version. Basically, I can’t apply widescreen to anything other than the original clip without it looking distorted and crazy. Can’t find anything else on the subject so any help would be appreciated.

  Nest the clip after the motion affects are applied, then apply the widescreen filter to the nested clip.
