  How to create Energy blast (x-men style)

  Looking to simulate the blast of the eye-rays from Cyclops of the X-men movie series.

  Here is a painting, but the look I need is a little flatter and more defined.

  learn the basics then put those together to make this effect.
  all it would take is the basics .. id advise watching some the tutorials on video copilot .. basic training section .. then youl get some ideas how to create this .

  also watch the youtube video of the haddoooken . or how ever its spelt .. one of the most popular youtube after effects videos .. if you cant find it . then you dont deserve it

  I remember at the time the first movie came out, an interview with the FX guys talking about wanting the eye blast to look like a jet of water. I’d ake a look at Particle Illusion (or the After Effects particles system at a pinch) and try to simulate the movement that way. Once there, you just need to figure out the colouring, shape and transfer mode.
