  • RED FCP to colour workflow: how best to preserve effects?

    Hi,

I’m editing a project shot on RED and trying to work out my workflow going from FCP to Colour (and beyond) when effects are used on clips. We have transcoded the footage to ProRes 422 and will be onlining to Native RED files.

I have read the Colour User Manual regarding this process and the RED white paper as well. They recommend ‘pre-rendering’ – (which am I right in thinking, just means export the clip with the effect already rendered on it) and exporting in either ProRes 422 or Uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2

My question really is what is the highest codec that bring me close to RED native footage for these clips?
    RED media is 4:4:4 right?

Just to add this would be massively helpful because I use a lot of little effects and resizes and motions in my films. Its a little messy but its quite essential and doing it after FCP would really interfere for me.

    I appreciate any suggestions!

    Thanks in advance,
    Bailey.
