FCP Color Correction question
Howdy,
I have a question on some footage I am color correcting, I was using my Rebel t3i with the tungsten light setting in a yellow room, needless to say my footage turned out really yellow. I gave my footage a color correction and the colors look washed out I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on maybe how to fix it?

Use a color corrector 3 way, lower the black levels until they reach 0 on a waveform monitor.
Move the color wheels all slightly toward blue. Might want to raise the midtone’s level up a little to brighten the picture, then do a final look at the black levels to keep them at 0.

Once the video levels are OK, and the hue is OK, just raise the sat slider to correct for the washed out look.

Lots of issues…
Totally flat lighting and yellow everywhere. Even the 2nd image which you say you’ve color corrected has no highlights at all and nothing white whatsoever in the entire scene..
Far from being “washed out,” your clip needs to be washed out in some areas to make it appear that there was light from some source. By boosting the highlights and mids so there is something white in the scene that you can at least then color balance, in order to remove the yellow that’s purvasive across the entire color range.
Then you crush the blacks and perhaps lower the mids to bring the clip back down into its proper contrast range.

In the future I would try to white balance your camera before you shoot. You are shooting highly compressed footage (h.264) and it doesn’t hold up well in post to dramatic color work. They recommend trying to get it right in camera because of this fact.
Anyways, I agree with another poster that your color grade is still not fully corrected. Below is a quick and dirty correction I did to assure you that all your color is there.

I recommend taking some courses at Lynda.com on Final Cut Pro color grading. Or if you have ‘Color’ even better. It’s only $25 a month, with no contract, and worth every penny. I am not affiliated with Lynda.com in any way, but the site has been a bit part of why I am a working creative professional. They have complete comprehensive courses which is a lot better than getting snippits off Youtube by random wannabes.
