  FCP asks to re-enter serial but I can’t find it!

  Hi all,

  I’m having problems with a Mac Pro. In order to continue working I’ve taken my system drive out of my Mac Pro and put it into an older computer. This works, except now FCP is asking for my serial number. The trouble is that I can’t find the original discs. Is there a file somewhere on the system drive where the serial number is stored?

  Even as I type this I feel like I know why Apple do this – so that I can’t just sell a harddrive to somewhere with FCP installed. Makes sense. In which case, I can understand why it may be impossible to answer this question! If that’s the case, can I contact Apple to retrieve it?? I’ve not had to do this before so am a little stuck for ideas.

  Never mind, I’ve sorted it – I had the same copy installed on a laptop so was able to use the serial number from the splash screen. Woohoo! Now to figure out what’s wrong with the Mac Pro!
