  23.98 AVC intra sync drifts unless it’s in a 29.97 timeline?

  My AVC Intra 23.98 1080p footage has sync drift in any clip, whether I import as native or import as ProRes. Throw it in a 23.98 timeline, still no sync. Throw it ina 29.97 timeline- joy. What is the deal here I wonder?

  I can’t say I know this for a fact, but it’s possible your camera does not really shoot true 23.98, but in fact shoots a 29.97 variant that has some of the qualities of material shot at 23.98. Some early Sony HDV cameras had just such a “faux” type of “film” setting.

  I suspect you are right. The codec reads AVC Intra 100 1080 24p/p30. In P2CMS it reads as 29.97fps, but after import into FCP it reads 23.98 fps. I remember hearing something about “24P in a 29.97 stream” but have no idea what that means.
