  • AVC-Intra frame rate different in P2CMS and in FCP?

Posted by Charlie Kosheff on October 13, 2011 at 6:34 pm

Am new to AVC Intra. Cameraman shot AVC Intra 100 instead of DVCProHD and I am stumped. In P2 CMS, the frame rate shows as 29.97. When I log and transfer into FCP, frame rate says 23.98, codec listed as AVC Intra 100 1080 24p/p30. Nothing I do in preferences in terms of checking or unchecking “remove pulldown,” bringing in Native VS. ProRes, etc. changes the resulting 23.98 fps. The rest of my pre existing footage is 29.97 and I need to stick with that.

Running FCP 7 in Snow Leopard 10.68 with newest P2 drivers, P2 CMS, AVC Intra decoder….

With AVC-I, the cameras have the ability to shoot true 23.98 psf, while DVCPro HD does not. It’s possible they shot 24p.

If possible, can you upload one the the XMLs that reside in the CLIP folder? Please zip it first, and then upload here by clicking on the little disk icon.

You have to zip it first. Then upload. Do you mind, it does appear to be 24p, but I’d like to take a look at the file if you don’t mind.

    Sorry!

Yes this is in fact true 24p material. You will have to run these through Compressor to make these 60i or 30p whatever you need to match.

The interesting part is, the interview in this footage doesn’t play in sync in FCP, either in clip form or in a 24P timeline with same settings as the clip. If I drop it into a 29.97 timeline, it stays in sync. I think I am just going to edit with it in 29.97 and export 29.97 and see what happens. I have one other main interview that is 29.97.

You will have 2224 pulldown. Frame1-Frame2-Frame3-Frame4-Frame4-Frame1-Frame2-Frame3-Frame4-Frame4.
