[Shane Ross] “Raf, you of all people know you can’t edit H.264 natively”
Sure Shane, but you know that certain unsupported stuff works, as long as you don’t try to make funny things.
The GoPro stuff plays great in FCP. You can cut it, and even applying some filters, in a Prores sequence without problem.
What I point is just to a technical incongruence, but doesn’t affects editing.
H264 is a YUV codec, but asks for RGB processing.
When you conform a sequence (Compressor: H264), the settings shows “Render in 8b RGB”.
If you just change to render in YUV (8 or High Precision), the sequence need rendering even if you haven’t done nothing (filters, motion tab,..).
Is like you conformed a sequence to an Animation clip, and the setting would show “Render in 8b YUV”.
Must be a reason, but I can’t figure it out.
I have to try with H264 from other source.
