MPEG Streamclip and ProRes 422
OK, it’s not strictly FCP but I’m tapping the wealth of knowledge here, also not so much of a major problem as a moan…
I’ve been using MPEG Streamclip to transcode several camera angles from a concert recording. All other cameras were AVCHD and came in fine through log & transfer and I transcoded to standard ProRes 422.
In Streamclip I used the batch export function and chose the first 422 (there are 2 entries and I assumed the latter was HQ although it’s not marked, it just shows as 2 x 422 entries.) In all other apps that give you this codec choice, 422 is first, 422 HQ is marked as such and is second. So I’ve ended up with a shed load of HQ files and now of course because of the mismatch I can’t make my multi clips and I’ve got to transcode again from the originals, a 2 day process 🙁
Does anyone know why this is the case and is there an update or any way to clearly see what version of ProRes you are encoding to BEFORE you set off a batch?
Also do you have to have FCS3 to get your hands on 422 LT? Is there a way to get the standalone codec and then will it show up in FCP 6.0.6? Surely if it’s just a codec, it should be seen in V.6 if it’s on the system?
