I often see people name their files by underscoring between words. I have heard conflicting things about the need/use of this. I dont do it, but perhaps I should. Thoughts?

It used to be, and I don’t know if it still holds true, but Computers did not like – dashes, . periods, / slashes in file names.

Using the_underscore was the wise way to do things. It’s a habit I developed in the mid 90’s and still use them_today.

This would be a good question for the OS boards

I think underscoring is useful to put a timecode number into a file name as : or; is illegal. It also makes the numbers look like timecode so less confusing than spaces.

These days most OSs can handle a lot of characters that were once illegal, but a space instead of an underscore is OK for all platforms.
