  import iMovie footage into fcp without rendering

  Ok so I have footage on dv tapes from a dvx 100a in 24p 720 anamorphic squeeze mode. They have had footage stolen before so they won’t give me the tapes to import direct into fcp7. They have iMovie and want to digitize the footage in iMovie to give to me. What settings if any, could they use to give me in a format that I won’t haves to render and go through bs?

  I found this article which is step by step for them, but which qt settings would they use for this weird ass dvx pseudo HD format?

  iMovie records as DV Stream (.dv). FCP Records as DV/NTSC…slightly different. But, the iMovie captures will not work directly in FCP 7 without rendering. Sorry. They either need to find FCP and capture with that. Or, you need to use Compressor to convert their footage to DV/NTSC.

  You can try rewrapping the “.dv’ files as QT.
  Open the files in MPGStreamclip, and “SAVE AS..QT”.
  Audio will always need rendering due to the 32KHZ iMovie audio.

  FCPX can read iMovie projects.

  You might want to think about using that instead, if you are brave.
