Stretch problems exporting from FCP 7 to iDVD via QTM
Hi,
I am getting stretch problems when I export from FCP 7 to idvd via QTM. I have been trying to cure this problem for four days and the client is waiting patiently for the DVD.
My time line settings in FCP 7 are:
Frame Size 720 x 576. Aspect Ratio CCIR 601/DV PAL (5:4). Pixel Aspect Ratio PAL CCIR 601 (720 X 576) Anamorphic Box is UNCHECKED
Field dominance: upper
Ed Timebase 25
compressor DV – PAL
Compression settings DV – PAL
Quality-Best
Interlaced
4:3
The pictures in FCP are fine but when I export to QTM they become stretched. Also when exported to iDVD. I have tried to change the aspect ratio anywhere I can including in idvd picture settings but when I burn the DVD the images are stretched, everytime. Instead of a true 16:9 image it’s just a stetched 4:3. How do I keep the correct aspect ratio during this process?Regards,

Try exporting the QT movie again, and be sure to check on “use current settings”. If this distorts the file, post your sequence settings exactly. Don’t use QT conversion. Use File/export/QT movie.

Hi Jerry,
Just to confirm the QTM created by FCP plays fine in QT player, in 4:3 format, it’s only when I convert it to 1024 x 576 that it stretches the image. And it stays stretched when I import to iDVD and burn DVD.

Hi Dave, thanks for taking the time to try tio help me.
I am trying to burn a widescreen DVD for a client. So i am importing the 4:3 QTM (from FCP) and converting it to widescreen in QT 7.
(1024 x 576 PAL) Then I am importing that saved movie into idvd and creating a 16:9 project and burning that to DVD. And when I do that it stretches the image to fit the widescreen and distorts it. What am I doing wrong?Regards,

Thanks for that. So are you saying it is not possible to make a true 16:9 sd dvd in idvd with media exported from fcp. By true 16:9 I mean an image that is not simply a 4:3 image stretched to fit a wide screen, with all the distortion that involves?
Is it possible using compressor and DVD Pro?Regards,

I shot this video in 1920 x 1080 50i full HD – I thought that was widescreen.

I recut the piece on a new HD timeline, as suggested.
New settings are:
Frame Size 1920 x 1080. Aspect Ratio HDTV 1080i (16:9).
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square. Anamorphic Box is UNCHECKED
Field dominance: upper
Ed Timebase 25
Compressor XDCAM EX 1080i50 (35 mbs/vbr)
Compression settings XDCAM EX 1080i50 (35 mbs/vbr)
FPS 25
The image is perfect in FCP, also on export to QTM, as is the preview widescreen image in iDVD.
BUT……the image on the DVD burnt by iDVD is stretched on my 16:9 widescreen TV. Any suggestions?
