Dust on a Photo
Hey everyone.
I’m working on a Veteran’s Day memorial for my church and we have some old photos of some members of our congregation. I would like to possibly use particular or the included particle generators to make it look like the photo is dusty, and then the dust gets blown away to reveal the image. and this is all in 3d space with camera moves while the animation is taking place.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help.

take a look at the old text that blows away like sand tutorial. it uses particle playground, which, being a 2d system, may not work for you, but seeing the process should help.
also look at building up particles tutorial. it will show you how to use particular to create a ‘layer exploder’ to dissolve away an image. the dissolving image could be you dust layer, revealing the other image behind it. (you can skip the reversing process to make the image be revealed by the particle system)

I have Particular so I’m going to go that route, but James’ tutorial won’t load for some reason. oh well.
Oh and I also responded to Dave’s response, but apparently as a new post haha. my bad.

i emailed kathlyn to see if that tutorial could be fixed… it may related to some library issues they had last week. hopefully they can recover it, it was a good tutorial showing how to maniplate animated masks with particular emitters to get a layer to seem to dissolve away into particles with control over direction.
