Final Cut Pro 2 Trash or Treasure???
Just got back from Goodwill where there was a boxed Final Cut 2 Pro (for 50 cents). It appears to have all the disks and the books. I know there have been many upgrades to it. My son just bought a MACBOOK Pro and has been using I-movie but I don’t know if this will even run and certainly isn’t set up for the HighDef that his Sony Camera shoots in.
I know some old Macs can be had for cheap and I was thinking perhaps to buy one and make a dedicated editor out of it.
Any upgrade options?
Anything Else I should know?And is it Trash or Treasure?

Trash. This app is 8 years old. Only works with DV. Only runs under OS 9 (no FCP X at all), only works on PowerPC machines. And there is no upgrade path…because FCP 7 has been discontinued and FCP X doesn’t have upgrade pricing.
Unless you have a REALLY old computer running OS 9, and want to edit DV…this is useless.

But if you do want a computer to run it I do have one that is just collecting dust. G4867, has OS9, OS X.4 and X.5 installed on it. 🙂
Oh it also has a $10,000 dvd encoding card in it that I would gladly sell.

Let’s see Didn’t Final Cut Pro 2 originally sell for about $1000 and I paid 50 cents for it. OK I might give you $5.00 for that encoding card 🙂
Actually, although I am a “packrat” I already have two editing systems in my basement so I might see if I can sell this software on ebay. I did a search of completed auctions and one that looks like mine sold for $125…maybe someone didn’t really know what they were buying? (How will I know if all the disks are there?)

Michael, I’d venture a guess that you’d like to have that $10K in your pocket right now rather than in that card. Yes?

Curious if I have all the disks. I have 2 that say Power Mac G4, 4 that are PowerMac 4 System Restore. One that says “Final Cut Pro 2” and One that says “Final Cut Pro 2 Tutorial” and One that says “Apple Hardware Test.” Also a a burned disk that written in Sharpie says” 059 Classic Mode” The Paper pack says Power Mac 04 Media and the one Final Cut book has the registration number sticker inside the cover.

Couldn’t you buy FCS 3 upgrade on eBay and use the serial to upgrade from 2 to 7?
