Can’t re-import/mount offline media in log and transfer. ‘unsupported’ or ‘invalid’ directory structure
I have a problem with re-importing offline media (originally logged and transferred from a SDcard). I can’t mount any off the volumes. The clips all seem to be inactive in the log and transfer window and when I try to mount clips or a folder it says:
Warning
‘Long.transfered” contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media’.What is wrong?
Here are all details:
My FCP project crashed during an attempt to recapture in a higher quality (going from Apple ProRes 422 to Apple ProRes 42 (HQ)) a lot of my media turned offline because the links were suddenly broken. Unfortunately the media seemed to have ‘disappeared’ on my hard drive (which was almost out of space at that time).
At this point I got help from a FCP editor who told me to use the media manager to copy the project and put it on a new hard drive (with sufficient space) and then re-import all the offline media. I did that with no problems.However, now I want to re-import a different version of the project and have therefore been starting over with copying the longer project in media manager and putting it on the same hard drive as the shorter version. I am following the exact same procedure as before. But for some reason I can’t re-import the offline media this time!
These are my steps:
I mark everything on my timeline, right-click and choose capture. The log and capture window first pops up but I can close it without any problems and continue into the log and transfer window. Here I choose to re-import ‘all offline items in selection’. Hereafter a window pops up saying ‘the volumes listed below are missing. Please mount them to continue to re-importing media’.
And this is where my trouble begins. The status of the Missing Clips is marked with a ‘!’ but it is not, as usual, a red ‘!’, but a grey, sort of inactive ‘!’. When I try to add volumes or search for volumes I can’t mount any clips. If I try to add the whole folder with media I get the following message (as mentioned in the beginning of the post):Warning

I have tried to redo everything – make a new copy in media manager following all the usual steps but the same problem occurs when I am about to mount the missing clips.

What was the original format that was shot? Did you transcode it all to proves first, and you’re trying to reimport these original files as prores HQ? (I really wonder if it’s worth the effort BTW… it may not look any better than standard ProRes unless the material has a lot of fast movement in it.)

Thank you for taking your time answering.
I shot the material on AVCHD and yes, I did originally transcode it to prores. I think that you are right in that it is not worth the effort to reimport it to prores HQ and I have decided not to do so.
However, my problem remains the same – I still can’t reimport the offline media to prores. Any idea what’s going on?Thank you,

You can’t reimport the original files or some proxy files you made (offline files). If the former, check to make sure the folder and file structure is exactly as it was on the card or drive that recorded the AVCHD in the first place. If the latter, you likely have corrupted files or something…
