Transcoding MTS for FCP 6
Ok, so I’m doing my best to encourage my work to upgrade this 2006 Mac Pro for something better (along with FCP X).
However, in the mean time, I’m stuck with what I’ve got:
- Mac Pro 1,1 2 x 3 GHz dual core Xeon
- Leopard operating system (NOT Snow Leopard)
- FCP 6
Fine, except my work wants me to edit the files off our new 1080i HandyCam, which are of course AVHCD in .MTS format.
Right now, all I know to do is to use Hand Brake to convert to .m4v and then import. Then, I set the output setting to .H264, which requires a render.
Is this the way to go? Or is there an “editing codec” I should be using, and what? My poor old Mac Pro starts dropping frames like crazy if I try something too strenuous, so what do you suggest?
