Changes done in Color don’t export to Quicktime
Hi,
I’m working in Final Cut 6. I’m attempting to make changes in Color, but when I export my completed sequence into Quicktime, my .mov looks as if I have made no color corrections whatsoever.My workflow is:
Select all of the desired sequence in FC
Send to Color
Make appropriate changes
Save in Color
Render
Send to FC (new sequence “from Color” appears in bin and shows changes)
Open and select sequence
Export to QuicktimeLike I said, when I open the file in Quicktime none of my color corrections seems to have exported. (And I do have that “enable FC color” preference checked.)
I also attempted to open the .mov file in VLC to see if the colors showed elsewhere, but I got an error message- “No suitable decoder module- VLC does not support the audio or video format APCH. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.” The audio does play, so I assume its referencing a problem w/ the video.
Help, please?

What are the sequence settings of the sequence you’re sending to Color, what are the source clips’ properties, and what render settings in Color are being used?

Hi Jerry,
The sequence is Pro Res 422.
The clips were shot on a 7D at 24fps in 1080p.
Render project settings are frame rate 23.98, resolution presets 1280x720HD, width 1920 height 1080, export codec-original format.

More important than that, did you open the Render Que and render all your graded clips before sending the project back to FCP?

Yes, I did. When I open the imported “from Color” sequence in the FC timeline, the clips appear with the changes made, as well.
I do have some sections in the sequence that are only still images/title cards imported from Photoshop, which Color notifies me are unrendered before I send it back to FC (which is as they should be, since I didn’t/couldn’t alter them in Color) but I’ve been assured that that shouldn’t affect the outcome.

Did you transcode the 7D clips to ProRes before you edited them into the sequence? If not, that’s the problem… H.264 clips (the original files) aren’t supported in FCP 6 or 7 for that matter.

Yes, I ran the original clips thru Compressor, which created Apple ProRes 422 versions, and then I imported those files into FC to edit.

Hold on a second now, so you’re saying that the changes you made in Color show up in the timeline, but you are unable to export a QT with those changes?

Correct.
I do have “Final Cut color compatibility” checked; indeed, I can even click the option on and off and see a slight change, but it’s still not reflecting my color grading.
