I am using FCP 7. I have an .avi I rendered out of after effects. It’s used as a 9 second animation at the beginning and end of several dozen of my timelines. All of a sudden it’s being read as offline. It plays in the time line and plays out of my bin. The file was never tampered with or moved, and I even reconnect it. It reads as connected in my bin but not in my time line, but it still plays like nothing is wrong. So when I go to export my sequence in any way the offline video screen exports out instead of my actual video.

Does anyone know what the heck is going on? The file is there. I have even re imported it and it still reads as offline. I even started a new project and imported the file and it still reads as offline. It plays in other video players and plays in all my FCP timelines. This is one of the strangest problem I have ever come across. Please can someone help me solve this problem? Thanks.

I think it is because of the .avi codec is not an editing one for fcp. You should render the file from After effect in .mov or .dv instead.

I’ve been exporting with the .avi file for months with no problem. It just started giving me this problem a few days ago.
