  7D Log and Transfer question

  Hi All

  Does anyone have an idea why this would happen…

  I received a drive for a project that I’m starting that contained qt files that had previously been transcoded from 7D H.264 to ProRes 422 Proxy( I am fairly certain this was done in FCP Log and Transfer) along with a FCP project that had the transcoded footage in bins.

  When I went to the 7D backup drive to import more footage, I found that the timecode start points for each of the previously transcoded 7D clips was exactly one hour less than the tc start points for the transcoded clips that were in the FCP bins. When I re-transfered some of the 7D clips the transcoded tc matched the tc as indicated in Log and Transfer.

  Also when I tried to do a batch capture/up-res of the Proxy footage the system reported that the footage reported that the clips had been captured off of tape and launched Log and Capture rather than Log and Transfer to re-transcode the footage.

  Has anyone encountered this before?

  Dan, I can’t shed any light on the timecode problem. But I’ve seen the “log and capture” issue a few times.

  Usually, I’ll go to recapture a prores proxy timeline and it will give me a message, “some of your clips were captured from tape” (I’m paraphrasing). But after clicking through, FCP will jump right into log and transfer mode and everything will re-capture fine. So I usually chalk up these messages as a minor annoyance, since everything else about the online works fine.

  I did once have a problem with a RED timeline, where FCP seemed to insist that one clip was captured from tape (it wasn’t). I ended up having to manually recapture and conform the clip.

  What steps are you taking to prep your timeline for re-capture? You might want to duplicate your timeline and delete all the audio tracks. Then try media manage–>make offline–>re-capture. I find this works reliably.

  I was using the manage method for my test and only had the sync audio from the clips.
