What exactly do you want to know? I installed them on 10.7. They coexist along with fcp 7. So far so good. 10.6.8 keeps reminding me to install them but I kinda ignore them since I’m not gonna run fcpx on 10.6.8.

I’m asking if the codecs should be installed for FCS3.

If you are planning on running FCS3 for awhile, would freeze your working system is right now. No more updates to it. Ever.

Test new software on a clone, but you knew that already, 😉

According to new posts today at Adobe the latest Snow Leopard 10.6.8 update has apparently broken Premiere’s Mercury Playback Engine running on NVidia’s Cuda cards. So, be careful.

Thanks David. My system is now frozen and will be cloned just in case. Updates are now off. The next move is most likely CS5 so I can stay with Color.

When I read the OS upgrade was “to assist with apps store to buy FCP X”.. I declined. I knew Apple would do me no favours as they seem to be determined to force us all to FCP X, but I am suspicious that this ‘upgrade’ also broke the most desirable competitors main advantage.

    Rafael,

As you already know they have nothing to do with fcs 3.

I’m not talking about any system install.
What I’m talking about is call “ProApps Codec Update”.
That is a simple QT update and shouldn’t affect the system at all.
The most, could affect those codecs updated.

Apple has been very clever releasing FCX before LIon.
This way skips giving any kind of support to FC.7 on the new system.

    Hi
Presumably it gives you ProRes etc (which came with FCP 7) if you have no installation of FCS 3?

    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1396
This update adds the following video codecs for use by QuickTime-based applications:
    Apple Intermediate Codec
    Apple ProRes
    AVC-Intra
    DVCPRO HD
    HDV
    XDCAM HD / EX / HD422
    MPEG IMX
    Uncompressed 4:2:2

This is supposed to be an update for FCX.
Codecs should be different than the installed with FCX (unless FCX installed no codecs), otherwise, why to update?
So they may be different versions than the codecs we are using in FCP.7/QT.7.
Not sure. I will try to see if they show a different software version.
