DVCPRO HD captures as 1280×1080??
So here’s my issue. I’ve got a videographer with the HVX-200 recording 1080 in the DVCPRO HD codec. Since we film comedy shows and need the card space for more shooting, we usually dump the card contents on a hard drive (with the exact hierarchy as the cards have), and then I Log and Capture through FCP and everything looks fine. All of my settings are setup for what I need them to be (ingesting as ProRes 422 LT), but when I drag the clips down to the queue, FCP encodes it as DVCPRO HD and at a resolution of 1280×1080 resulting in an incredibly squashed frame, forcing me to distort the footage -50 and scale it up to 150% in order to fill a 1920×1080 frame (see below image).
I’ve got 7D and XH-A1 footage transferring in as ProRes 422 (LT) with no problem.
How can I fix this?

Dvcpro hd is an anamorphic hd format. What you are seeing is correct.

That’s how DVCPRO HD creates such a small file size.
It uses non square pixels. the playback device scales the image to fill the 1920 x 1080 frame.

Ok. Is there an easier way to get the footage to 1920×1080 without stretching out the pixels? Or even to have it ingest as the settings I chose it to: ProRes 422 (LT)? It appears FCP is bypassing the preferences section for transferring DVCPRO HD footage.

DvcPro HD only comes in natively during log and transfer.
You can run the files through compressor, but really there’s no point (unless you need to multiclip, then you would have to transcode as hte codec/frame rate must match in multiclip). I would just distort and scale in the timeline. Fcp should do this automatically for you.

Check your timeline settings but hitting command+0 and see what it says. Should be 1280×1080 with the appropriate non-square pixel ratio selected, and has to have the anamorphic box ticked.
Even better, make a new seq, and drag one of the clips onto it and click YES when it asks you if it should conform the seq to the clip settings.

No no. DVCPro HD does not need the anamorphic button ticked. I promise, it does not.

You are entirely correct, sir. My bad. i don’t work with DVCPROHD much anymore (Go PRORES!!!) so, I was pulling on an apparently bad memory. I wil edit my post so no one else goes astray.

The sequence settings have to be set to 1920×1080 and ProRes LT codec since my other 2 cameras are in that codec and I have to do a multi-camera edit. Is there a better way to add DVCPRO HD footage into a ProRes timeline without stretching the dimensions or is the way I’ve stated the best way?

As I mentioned before if you need to multiclip, all video formats must match, that means you will have to transcode all of your DVCPRo HD footage to ProRes LT. You could setup a droplet in Compressor and drag all the DVCProHD footage from your capture scratch to the droplet and do it that way. All TC will preserved if using that method. I would suggest not exporting from FCP. You will need to do this before you multiclip.
