Automatically remove particular plug-in?
Posted by Max Frank on June 2, 2011 at 10:40 amHi,
I’ve got a particular plugin that I think is making my FCP unstable.
I’ve got it applied to a large number of clips at random places on my hour-long timeline.
Is there an app that will inspect the timeline and remove just that particular plug-in automagically?
Thanks,
Wayne

June 2, 2011 at 11:24 amHI,
Thanks Steve,
It seems that this will automagically do it: https://editmule.com/pages/plugins/plugin.php?id=3
I’m currently exporting my XML to make it run.
Failing which I’ll try the DR option, which I have.W

June 2, 2011 at 3:09 pmThe Editmule app is doing something slightly different. It is removing filters from your project, which is not the same as actually removing the plugin files from your hard disk.
It is also removing ALL of them, it is not automatically detecting which ones are causing problems.
(P.S. Just for the record, FCS Maintenance Pack can automatically detect unstable plugins, but only if they are causing FCP to crash at startup. It will not detect them if they are causing random crashes in the middle of working.)
My software:
FCS Maintenance Pack – Tools to keep Final Cut Studio running smoothly and fix problems when they arise
Pro Media Tools – Edit QuickTime files, detect gamma shifts, edit markers, watch renders and more

June 2, 2011 at 3:25 pmIf you can export to XML, it should be very easy to do.
Just do a search / replace with a text editor and disable the effectsearch for
True
-1
-1YourEffect
replace with
FALSE
-1
-1YourEffect

June 3, 2011 at 1:20 amThanks all for the replies.
Edit Mule worked great for removing all instances of the offending plugin-in on my timeline, but only after I broke my project up into smaller pieces [it seemed to be too large and Edit Mule wasn’t able to complete its operation on the full sized project].
Thanks for the hints and tips,.

June 3, 2011 at 2:57 pmYears ago I had a similar problem and just manually uninstalled the plug in (moved it out of the plugins folder)
Then toggled visibility on the timeline (actually a duplicate), causing everything to unrender…
