I need to make a 3D basketball in AE
Posted by Joshua Earles-bennett on October 26, 2007 at 12:47 pmI see a lot of things about CC Sphere (I’m not to familiar with it). Does CC Sphere take a UV map and wrap it around a sphere? If so, any places that have basketball uv maps?

October 26, 2007 at 2:20 pmcc cylinder uses a cylindrical projection of a texture that it wraps around the sphere. cylindrical textures are a bit tricky to make when they are ‘geometric’ like the lines on basketball are, but i’m sure you can adapt a tutorial on creating cylindrical textures…

CC Sphere maps a 2d layer to a spherical projection that appears on a 2d layer. It is not a 3d object.
If you need a 3d ball to behave like a 3d object, you need a 3d plugin for Ae such as Zaxworks or you need to be working in a 3d environment, whcih AE is not.

A UV Map is a map of texture coordinates for an object. I suppose the letters UV were kind of arbitrary, but I believe they’re used in order to differentiate from XY(Z) coordinates. The UV Map is two dimensional (U and V), and any given UV coordinate corresponds to a specific location on a 3D surface. Thus, if you’re using UV mapping you will be painting your texture in on top of an exported graphical representation of the object’s UV coordinates:

October 26, 2007 at 4:58 pmi’m sorry… i said ‘cc cylinder’ when i meant to say ‘cc sphere uses cylindrical projection’
sorry for any confusion….

Just a visual example to add precision:https://revisionfx.com/products/remap/gallery/
The fifth movie from the top
on the left – the red/green image is what was rendered from the 3D system for the curtains and then in AE with our tool RE:Map UV a video was mapped using that information.Pierre

October 28, 2007 at 2:25 amCheck out the Zaxwerks form. Invigomany is a product for use with 3D Invigorator that is a library of objects. I believe a
basketball is included.
