  Is batch exporting/renaming segmented files from timeline possible?

  I have a 3 hour timeline of a company meeting. The client wants the timeline split into 50 new files that they can post on their server as WMV files.

  My question, can someone tell me if I can mark simple in/out points on the FCP timeline and “batch” export a new quicktime of each of the many new files.

  I don’t want to have to go file/export/quicktime/standalone for every segment. I didn’t know if there is an easier way saving some hours?

  My goal is to make 50 .WMV files one very long timeline. Once I make the new .mov I have a file converter that can batch automate. But how to batch export these edits from FCP is the question?

  One method would be to make 50 dupes of your timeline. And in each dupe keep only the portion you need deleting the rest. Then batch export these 50 timelines. File > Batch Export.

  or perhaps you could make subclips for each section, then highlight all the subclips in the bin and batch export those?

  I don’t know where you are doing your compressing, but perhaps the program you are using to compress with has in and out capability. I know Compressor and Episide do. You can even add Fade up/fade outs.

  Thank you all for these great ideas. Almost there I think….

  Adam, the method you described is what I was thinking, but is there a method of “batch” exporting the subclips for overnight render? If so how? (my segmented timeline is 3 hours, ouch!) So the creation of the sub clips to new files is sort of the painful step.

  Once I have the 50 new subclips in a bin I can either use Compressor
  or other conversion software.

  The client wants the 50 clips as .wmv files. I think last year I made them .mpg files using apple Compressor and windows media player played those fine.

  you will need to create your subclips first, then within the folder containing the subclips you hold shift whilst selecting all you want to export. Then select Send To …Compressor.

  This will ask if you want to send as individual clips or combine them into one – choose individual.

  When Compressor opens you can select all the clips and drag a setting onto one, which will place the same setting on each clip.

  You will need to create your own wmv setting as Compressor doesnt have one as standard. Search the cow for instruction on this (its how i learnt it). Then submit the job and your batch will happen. You may want to look into using QMaster to speed things up – the instructions are within its help files, and should be already installed with your FCP.
