I am editing a documentary with FCP version 7.0.3. I just received a hard drive containing a bunch of footage transferred over from a Canon XF305, and all of the clips are in individual folders that contain an .MXF file (which as far as I can tell is the video file) and three other file types (.CIF, .SIF, and .XML). I do not have any experience working with these file types, and I cannot figure out how to import them into FCP, or even view them in Finder for that matter. I’ve tried looking through some forums, but most seem to suggest that I need a converter to do this (not free). I’ve tried bringing the files into other programs like Mpeg Streamclip and Compressor, but nothing seems to recognize them. I even downloaded the Canon plugin on their website, but I think it expects the files to be in mpeg2 format. Does anyone have a simple, and hopefully free method for converting .MXF into a file type compatible with FCP?
