  Watching FCP Exports in QT vs FCP?

  Is there any difference at all (quality, dropped frames, audio out of sync, etc..) between watching an exported FCP movie in Quicktime versus watching the exported file in FCP itself?

  I am recompressing all frames and making my movie self-contained.

  A co-worker told me I shouldnt watch my exports in QT, and I can’t see a difference.

  Thank you in advance for any advice on this.

  QT has problems with interlaced video being displayed on a computer (progressive scan) monitor… if you’re movie is progressive, it’s minimized a lot.

  QT also has a problem with anamorphic footage, but other than those caveats (and the fact that same video played on a video monitor or TV will not exhibit the same gammas) I don’t see a real problem with it.

  However you shouldn’t have to recompress all the frames. The best export you can do is file/export/QT movie and click on self contained. This then doesn’t recompress the video resulting in a generation up from a recompressed video.
