    * NEVERMIND THE POST – The answer is to ‘NOT’ click ‘Render All’ but to click ‘Render for Playback’. Sorry.

I’ve been trying to figure this one out for a day or two. I’ve got some archival footage shot in the early 80s on VHS-C. I had it transferred to .dv format. Then, imported as files to FCP 7. Now, some of the footage will render audio – maybe 1 in 10. But the remaining footage will not. None of the files need video render.

The video shows up without needing render. I can see no difference in the files that need audio rendering and those that do not. I’ve checked field dominance (Lower/Even), audio format (32-bit floating point), audio bit-rate (48Hz) and can’t find a difference.

my workaround has been to use MPEG-Streamclip to transcode to Prores 422 (LT) and deinterlace but I get some grain in the resulting footage – even though the size of the files suggest that there’s little loss.

I’d much rather use the .dv masters, especially since i’m working with such low quality masters.

I guess I could extract the audio from the transcoded files but that seems time-consuming as I believe their might be another solution.

I’ve reimported the problem files with no luck.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    John
