  Working wth slow motion – 60p in a 24p project

  Hi,

  Sorry if this question has already been answered. I had a look and coulndt find a similar post, but I could have missed it…

  I’m editing a music video shot on a 7D in FCP 7. My project has been set up as a 24p project, to match the majority of my footage, however I shot some of it at 60p to use as slow motion.

  What’s the best way to slow it down in FCP?
  I’m guessing that just changing the speed % in the motion tab on the clip is not the correct thing to do?

  I read a forum somewhere where someone suggested using Cinema Tools. There were no instructions on how to do that, and I’ve never used Cinema Tools, so if that is the correct method, could someone help me with how to do it please?

  Also, I’m not sure I’m going to do this, but I’d like the option: I might want to slow down the clip, and then bring it back to real-time, possibly using keyframes or something. Is this possible? What is the best way to achieve that, while maintaining the best possible quality?

  First, make a copy of the clip.
  Then right-click the copy and in the menu select Open with > Cinema Tools.

  The clip will open in a CinemaTools window. Bottom right of this window see the button called Conform. Press it.

  Select the frame rate you need to clip to play at – 24fps in your case. Press OK.

  Done. You have a 24fps clip.

  If you have a large number of clips, you can batch conform in CinemaTools in one go.

  Thanks so much for your quick response.
  I have tried what you said, however I dont have the ‘Open with cinema tools’ option when I right click on the clip.
  Perhaps you are using an older version of FCP?

  When I right click on the clip, I get what you see in the images below:
  

  

  

  If I put the clip in the timeline and then go to Export, I get the following options:

  

  Having never used Cinema Tools before, I’m quite lost with this.

  If you have any further help, I would greatly appreciate it.

  You need to close FCP
  Then right click the clip in the finder.

  CinemaTools is operating outside FCP.

  

  After opening, press the Conform button.
  In the window select the speed. Click Conform.

  

  Don’t forget to make a copy of the movie first. The conform process, in some circumstances can kill a clip.

  Hi,

  I followed the above steps given by Neil Sadwelkar. Thanks to him, I now have my 60p footage conformed to 24p and it’s in FCP. When I play it back in the preview window, it plays in slow motion, however, when I put it on the timeline with my footage that was shot 24p, it plays back at normal speed…
  Is there a step I’m missing?
  I want that clip to play back in slow motion.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
