  • Compressor to Log and Transfer?

Posted by Ben Smallzman on March 23, 2011 at 1:25 pm

my Nikon s8100 (HD widescreen) doesnt get recognized in the final cut pro log and transfer window, so I imported the clips into iPhoto and then tried dragging the clips into the L&T window. whenever I did this, I got the message that there was an invalid structure or that the media was not supported. so, I’m going to try to convert the clips to something that will be recognized in the log and transfer window via Compressor.

What file should I convert the clips to in Compressor, if I am going to drag the clips into the log and transfer window?

    Thanks

YOu don’t. Log and Transfer only works if you have the full card structure from the camera, and that card structure is supported by FCP. I don’t know if the Nikon’s is. But, if you use Compressor, just convert to ProRes 422, and IMPORT the result into FCP. Drag and drop, or FILE>IMPORT.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! but since I’ve never used Compressor, do you know how to actually convert it to pro res 422?

    Hi Ben,
    That’s in the manual.

Compressor has PRESETS. One of them, in the Advanced Conversion area…is PRORES 422. Don’t use the High Quality one. The other one is high quality, but the HQ setting is for high end 10-bit formats. DSLRs shoot 8-bit.

I love it!!! Like Rafael says, read the manual. It’s good advise to do before posting your problems.
