I have been using the Sony Z1U for a year or so now and all of the sudden today I put a tape in that has some important footage on it and it will not show the footage. The timecode will run and the footage will show while in FF or REW, but not in regular playback.

Any ideas or do I just have a bad tape? I have tried other tapes and they are working.

Did you record HDV or DV with that camera?
is the camera set to output HDV or DV?
Is FCP set to receive a HDV or DV signal?

All of those things must match.

It’s probably one of those menu settings, most likely one at the camera end if you’re seeing something when it’s spooling.

I have tried the footage in another camera with the same result. I can see it while spooling and not in regular playback. Anything????

Telling me you tested it on another camera does not answer any of the questions I asked. So again.

is the camera set to output HDV or DV?
Is FCP set to receive a HDV or DV signal?

All of those things must match.

Again, I have been doing this for a long time with this camera without a problem, I am at a loss. Any idea what could be going on here??

Is iLink set to “on” in the camera menu? If so, turn that setting off.
