    Hi There;

    I’m editing a project in FCP that’s using both PAL Mini DV footage and Canon 7D footage. I’ve transcoded the Canon footage to Apple ProRes 422 1920×1080 @ 23.98 progressive. I’m looking for the best Compressor settings to transcode the PAL Mini DV footage to match the Canon footage if possible. I realize I’d be up-ressing from an interlaced source 720×576 @ 25fps, and wonder if it’s even possible to get a good ProRes 1920×1080 clip at 23.98 progressive? If anyone has any advice to share, I’d greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks;

    Andy

    DV is not a good place to start. Are you slowing down from 25 to 23.98 in Compressor or must it be real time? If real time, then I would seriously consider a hardware uprez and frame rate conversion – Teranex etc

    Yeah, unfortunately the DV is the master for the PAL stuff. You’re probably right about hardware up-res, but resources are limited to capturing off of a PAL DV camcorder via firewire.
