Dark footage in FCP
Posted by Sverker Hahn on March 7, 2011 at 10:24 pmUpgraded (?) to Snow Leopard from Tiger.
Now all .mov – files are shown much darker i FCP.
Why?
How can I fix it?
This makes me quite irritated – right now FCP is useless.

March 7, 2011 at 11:13 pmSnow Leopard finally has correct gamma (2.2) to match broadcast spec. Tiger was the one that was wrong with 1.8 gamma on monitors.
Time to recalibrate your monitors and rejoice a long term bug that has been fixed.

March 8, 2011 at 1:31 amI thought I’d read that FCP’s old codebase manually corrected for the (then-default) OS X gamma setting of 1.8, so the correct course of action was to go back and set SL’s gamma to 1.8 so that FCP would be right. Was that fixed in a point-update?

March 8, 2011 at 1:37 amNot my experience with SL and FCP7. If you are running an older version of FCP on SL then that maybe the case.

March 8, 2011 at 5:51 amIf the bug is fixed, why are the gammas not the same in QT, DVDSP, PRORES and FCP?
How do I calibrate the monitor other than in preferences?
In Reduser.net there was a massive uproar against this bug.
I, too, is angry with Apple regarding the unconsistance in the pro applications.
Thinking of downgrading to Tiger.

They are for me. Are you running FCS3 in SL?

March 8, 2011 at 9:44 amRunning FCS 2 – FCP 6.0.6.
If upgrading to SL requires upgrading to FCS 3, then I will definitly downgrade the OS to Tiger.
