  • mastering to PAL: audio skippping, no image?

    SYSTEM:
    MacMini 2.4 GHZ, 4 GB RAM, FCP 6.06, DSR-11

I have a project shot in HD 24 fps.
I exported a reference QT and brought that into a DV PAL (anamorphic) sequence (settings: 720 x 576, CCIR 601 / DV PAL 5:4, anamorphic, DVCPRO PAL codec). And rendered the timeline, so I can print to tape.

I am trying to master to miniDV, PAL anamorphic. But when I do so, opting for the PAL switch on the DSR-11, and when I try to play back / capture back (in Log & Capture) what I printed to video in FCP, I hear choppy audio and no image preview is available. I have checked the print to video settings (tried both DV PAL as well as DVCPRO PAL) as well as the capture settings (when trying to watch what I printed), but I can’t figure it out.
Because I have no PAL monitor, I have no other way to check if the master is correct: the only way I have is to try to view it through Log & Capture, setting the input settings for PAL.

The DSR-11 is connected FW400 via an external LAcie drive, which is connected to the mac via FW800.

    Any light on this issue?

I’d check to see if you can layoff some straight DV material to the machine.

Why dis you go for DVCPRO? You should be using a DV 25fps timeline.

    Thanks for the quick response!
So… it turns out to be a simple case of an old FW 4pin-6pin cable…
I switched the cable and all is working fine now, using the DV PAL codec, not the DVCPRO by the way. Thanks!
