  • AE 7 freezes during startup splash.

Posted by Umer Zafar on October 9, 2007 at 10:51 am

    Hi there,
I havent been able to run AE 7 recently because it stucks during its startup splash screen sequence when it is showing the amount of ram used e.g. “8 % of 496 MB ram used”.

This happened simultaneously at my work place and at my home. I have uninstalled and reinstalled AE several times but its just not starting up.

is it a virus or a hardware issue?

If anyone can help me solve this issue, it will be a great relief. Thanks in advance. Bye.

You mean 4096MB, not 496MB, right?

I don’t think it’s a virus. First, I’d check to see if your systems meet the recommended hardware specs on the Adobe site. Then I’d try Adobe tech support, as I think they will solve installation issues for free … but it’s been a while since I’ve called tech support.

By the way, please tell us your:

    OS version
    Processor speed
    Amount of RAM

    Anybody else?

I found this on an Adobe tech form but I no longer have the link to the actual posting.

If you’re on a PC try this:

    Go to Control Panel
    Double click Adove Version Cue
    Start up AE

    This works for some people.

    Best of luck

The most common cause of startup issues for AE7 is OpenGL. Try removing the OpenGL plug-in from the Plug-ins/Extensions folder.

If that works, update the drivers for your video card, then put the plug-in back. If it fails again after you put the plug-in back, you can either:
    A) Get a new video card that supports OpenGL propertly.
    B) Just live without the OpenGL plug-in. You won’t be missing anything other than OpenGL acceleration.

    Hi there Timothy,
i ve tried to run AE after removing opengl plugin but no effect. The lines on splash screen go quickly but i think it freezes after the opengl line has passed and the cleanup process starts.

thanks for the help so far.
