  AVC HD Files – Log and Transfer issue – recognizing Flash memory device

  I have a sony flash memory Drive – NXCAM. I’ve been using Log and transfer since I got this device and its been fine but yesterday I deleted some of the older (.MTS and .CPI) files and now when I open Log and transfer in FCP it doesn’t recognize the Flash Memory drive. There must be some sort of setting that allows it to go back to the way it was. can anyone help?

  A setting that allows it to bring back deleted files? No. FCP needs the FULL card structure intact in order to log and transfer the files. You deleted two things it needs. Now it can’t do it. You’re only option now is third party converters, like CLIPWRAP2.

  Hi Shane thanks for the response. Here’s what I did. I deleted files (.MTS) so that I would have more storage on the device. Then I went out and shot a Video. the old files I don’t need. Just the ones i just shot. they are all there, but when I go to Log and transfer in FCP it doesn’t even register my device. that’s why i think its a setting issue. any suggestions.

  Hi Shane, thanks for taking the time to try and help me. I figured out the issue even though I’m not sure why it was an issue. I’ll explain in case anyone else has a similar problem. For some reason when i deleted all files from the flash memory drive (on my computer) it did not like this. So i went back to my camera, deleted most of my old files and finally after about 10 times of deleting files one by one it finally worked. So I deleted all my files up until a week ago and it was back to normal. Why, I donno. FCP couldn’t seem to recognize my flash drive with older files after I had done some deleting on my computer. What did I learn? never delete files (AVC HD Files) from your computer rather you need to delete files from your Camera and then I suppose it’s good to reformat every once and a while. Thats what the manual says. Long story short I should really read the manual, watch the dvd and take a class in FCP. But for now I’m ok and thanks again.

  Harry, you killed an essential file that has metadata in it (crucial for FCP recognizing it.)
  Therefore FCP couldn’t see it anymore.

  The camera would continue to put stuff on the card – it probably can handle the error condition when the file is missing.

  When you formatted the camera? The camera placed new clean metadata files there and now FCP can see it again.

  Moral of the story: Use the camera’s delete + format to clean up it’s card.
