  DSLR ProRes 422 and HDV

  Hello All….

  Quick question(s). Mixing 1080 HDV footage and 1920 x 1080 DSLR footage transcoded ProRes 422. I’m not going to capture the HDV ProRes… I’m not setup for that with space at this time. So I’m capturing HDV-1080p24 FireWire Basic.

  With that being said, I have two choices for sequence settings. One have the sequence match the ProRes 1920 x 1080 OR go with the HDV sequence setting. In each case I’ll end up with 720 x 480 when I author my DVD. I’ve been told I should base it on which footage I will use more of. That seems like the right answer, but with quality in mind…..

  Here’s my questions:
  1) Which sequence setting should I go with in order to have the best quality?
  2) What compressor setting in the Sequence Settings based on #1.

  ProRes 422 1920×1080.

  ProRes 422 1920×1080…frame rate to match your footage.

  In this case, when mixing formats, ProRes is the better choice, as HDV is a GOP format, and putting non-GOP footage into a GOP formatted sequence leads to lots of crashing.

  Hi one last question.

  Using a ProRes Sequence Settings, as noted below, forces my HDV footage to upsize to 133.33. Is that safe for HDV footage as far as retaining quality? 33% seems like a lot to me.
