Computer monitor calibration
Posted by Dennis Dean on January 9, 2011 at 9:57 pmCan anyone point me to best methods for calibrating a computer monitor for editing?
I know it will not be as accurate as a studio monitor but if I can get it into the neighborhood it would be helpful.
Thanks

January 9, 2011 at 10:31 pmThere is no way. The calibrators are all for PRINT work….not video. They will display pretty good colors if you buy a good one. But the Canvas isn’t designed to show you accurate colors. Nor is the Color preview.

January 10, 2011 at 1:23 amWe calibrate the brightness of our monitors using (HD 25p/50i) colour bars to get a ball park setting for brightness and contrast. As for colour and chroma, its a bit more guess work. Let me know if you figure that one out!

ColorSync settings are not used by either Shake or Final Cut Pro for automatic color calibration or compensation of any kind.

January 11, 2011 at 12:22 pmI know – I was just wondering if there was a way of getting into the same room – Sounds like it’s what I’ve been doing – eyeballing it.
Thanks, tho !
