4 xlr input to live capture FCP
I have a project that I need to capture 4 xlr audio sources from 3 judges talking and then the board feed with music for all weekend dance competitions. Back at the office we will use DVD Studio Pro to author DVDs with audio menu option to switch between 4 audio sources.
AJA IOHD appears to be a good solution, but outfitting 2 video crews with the breakout box and fast 17 inch Macs is pricey. We are working SD so I think the AJA IOLA from years ago might do the trick as well.
For much cheaper ($350) I found a Lexicon i-Onix USB solution with four inputs (with manual audio control …huge bonus over AJA).
My questions is will FCP allow firewire input for video and USB 4 channel Lexicon audio from the breakout box in the settings? Any other ideas on how this could be done?

Asking for trouble with that setup. I’d get a real capture card solution. Iohd and laptops will work and be portable.
You can also get a kipro, and an audio embedder. So you would have the 4 analog channels embedded to the sdi steam of the kipro. If you put an analog mixer with a 4 ch bus ahead of the embedder you’ll have level contol.
Io la would work as well if you can find some.
Make sure you have an express34 card to separate any storage from the fw bus

Or do dual system sound. Record the audio to something that is not mobile and have a real audio guy manning it. Much cheaper but it adds just a little extra work in post but that goes quickly unless you are starting and stopping all the time.

well, even starting /stopping a lot of times is not a problem if there is common TC.
But for the OP, this can work just fine. However, do test yourself.

Try the v4 hd. That unit has what you want and more, is cheaper than the iohd and will allow you room to grow.

Or just use two video cameras in the field with xlr inputs
