Project 35gb too large for a short video
I’m having a major project compressing my project from Final Cut 7.
Here we go:
This project was originally from FinalCut Express HD and the editor
had issues with the following: no audio on camera, raw footage
was upload on an external harddrive, later the HD crashed and
files were recovered. Camera used-Panasonic
I could not use the project because my FCP was crashing…so I
starting from scratch with the raw footage saved under a
new project.
2 different cameras used-Panasonic-can’t remember model# (either
24 or 29.97 frame size) Canon XH-A1 (29.97)
I had to rendered each clip manually even if no filter was used
Don’t know why, because I always use my Canon XH-A1 and no problem
with rendering in the timeline.
Have about 20 images in the timeline no greater than 1.5 mb each
1 graphic file and a few lower third texts used
When uploading to Compressor…it states it’s a 60 frame project
which I have no idea how it got that way.
I tried to convert to different formats, Sequence>Settings
Also, I noticed that in the Settings my Compressor was setup as
Photo-Jpeg. I tried to change “Load Sequence Preset” and the
project file size did change from 65gb to 35gb.
The video is 14 minutes long, audio includes music using 4 audio
tracks & 2 video tracks. Some basic motion is used for the
photos but nothing fancy.Confuse and need help!

You sequence settings are obviously completely wrong, hence the constant rendering. Unfortunately you can’t change the timebase of a sequence once there’s media in it.
You didn’t say what the frame resolution of your media or of your sequence is. Set the easy setup to the correct HDV preset that matches your media. Check the exact item properties of your media before you do this. If necessary make a custom preset. Then copy and paste the contents of the bad sequence into the new one. If the frame resolutions were wrong in the bad sequence you will probably have to reset the basic motion and perhaps the distort attributes of the clips.

Another question, is there anyway to change the settings in Compressor?
Also, when looking at the individual clips the format looks normal:
Item Properties>Format Video
(ie. 29.97 fps, 720×480 frame size, DV/DVCPRO-NTS, NTSC-CCir 601 Pixel Aspect and etc)
Photos are different:
(ie. 23.98 fps, 1826×1080 frame size, Photo-JPEG Pixel Aspect and etc) -

Those are huge, especially for an SD project. Do you need to do a lot of zooming way in on the images? You can resize the photos to be smaller and then reduces the finished file size. I use Photoshop to re-size all my photos / graphics to the minimum size I need to do the work in the timeline. If there is no zooming or movement required, then I would make the images as close to 720×480 as I can.

Yes. You can’t change the Apple presets but you can duplicate them and change the duplicate.

I have resize my photo files to further no other issues in the copy and paste into another sequence (per Tom).
So far so good, an extra few hours in the editing room.

Yes I have made the jump to copy and paste my clips to a new sequence. It work like a charm with a few hours of editing and for the best part no additional rendering was needed for each clip.
On to my next project!
