  • Exporting EX3 1080p Footage for Web

    Hello all,

Searched for the answer to this without luck. I’m having issues with stuttering, pixelation, and just generally poor image quality after uploading EX3 footage to Vimeo. Not sure what I am doing wrong…

    Workflow:

    XDCAM footage @ 1080/24/p
Color correcting with Magic Bullet Looks
    Editing/Exporting with FCP / Compressor

Just looking for some solid, go-to export settings for XDCAM footage – any ideas?

You can see the problem here: (VERY apparent when full screened)

    Thanks in advance!

I have always used 60i settings for shooting for the web and have had great results.

What are you uploading to Vimeo? That makes a huge difference.

You’d would do best to do the following:

    1) go into Sequence>>Settings and change the compressor to ProRes 422, then re-render the seq.

    2) Export a self contained QT using Export>>QuickTime Movie

    3) Use that file in Compressor to encode a high quality h.264 file at 1280×720 using the desktop preset, with Frame Controls turned on.

    4) use that file to send to Vimeo

And, unlike the other poster, I would not interlace the video or shoot interlaced. The stuff has be deinterlaced or displayed at 1/2 size anyway for the Web, so why shoot interlaced?

Also, check out Neat Video Noise Reduction. It would do wonders to clean up your video.
