  Rendering in FCE

  Hi Everyone,

  With Final Cut Express I have to render any files that I import into a project in order to view them while I edit them. Since I just need to make some minor changes to the video that don’t require me to view it in the timeline,I just skip rendering hoping to save time. But when I export the file to Quicktime the video gets rendered anyway. So I wind up not saving any time. That’s fine by me but I would just like to understand why this is. Does anyone know?

  That means that they are not in a format that FCE supports. And FCE is rendering them into a format it knows in order to work with it. If you want to avoid this…convert the files BEFORE you import, to a format it supports.

  I believe it’s only DV and Apple Intermediate. I think HDV gets captured to AIC.

  Hi everyone,

  Thank you for your replies. Sorry it took me a while to respond. Now I understand what I can do to. I will batch convert all of the video files to dv25, and then I won’t have to be around to render each video. This will make my life so much easier.
