Why does my HD footage look so degraded when I enlarge it?
I’m editing something with both HD and SD footage. Whenever I enlarge the HD footage (so it fits the screen with no black bars), the image gets really degraded. Is this a problem with my footage? or maybe my monitor?
Before I opened up the project an error message came on the screen that said
“installed graphics card does not support the openGL features recommended by final cut.
system has a cpu of 1.25 Ghz and you only have 1000mhz.
configuration not supported.”I feel like these two things may be related.
If it’s just my monitor, does that mean the footage would look okay on another computer?
anybody have any ideas about this??

HD by nature is wide screen so there should not be any black bars. Do you mean enlarge the SD?
If that is the case then certainly it will look degraded, in some ways it is similar to enlarging a picture on a photo copier. You are taking a smaller image and blowing it up, so yes it will look degraded, especially if the original is low quality in the first place.
You might get better results if you use compressor to convert the SD footage to HD before you edit.
