Here’s an interesting potential gotcha
A client working on their first HD project cut a load of stuff in an HD sequence with the field dominance reversed, i.e. set improperly to “Lower.” You can’t rectify that by simply changing field dominance in the original sequence, and quite by accident, I found that you can’t simply copy all the clips into a new properly setup sequence either, at least not without performing an extra step in the process.
The secret is:
a) first copy all clips from the sequence with the improper field setting
b) open a new sequence with the proper settings
c) before pasting the clips into the sequence you have to first set the field dominance to “none,” then paste, then change the field dominance back to “upper.” If you don’t do this step, field order is not properly interpreted and the video will look like absolute gunk.BTW, this is tested and repeatable. Try it out for yourself… More importantly, remember it for that one time a client gives you something to online in a sequence that has the fields reversed.

I haven’t seen that. When I copy and paste into a CORRECT sequence setting, I’ll notice that the clips have a SHIFT FIELDS filter…I just delete all those and I’m good.

When the client put the material in a seq. with reversed fields it added the shift fields filter– when I pasted into a seq. with fields set to “none” it removed the shift fields filter — then when I reset to Upper it just works right.
